Second Corinthians chapter one, verse nine is the passage I've chosen for my journey through prostate cancer. Although Paul was speaking specifically about the persecution he and other Christians endured for the Gospel, the emphasis is on the purpose. Persecution or trials of any form solely exist to make us rely on GOD alone, and not ourselves. They happen in order for us to exhaust ourselves of any self effort in order to realize that our total dependence should be on the One Who created, sustains, and has sovereign authority over everything, including our individual lives. One of the Lord's greatest pleasures is when we surrender all to Him so that He receives all the glory He deserves from us, especially those of us who claim Him as Lord. We must avoid using religious cliches and "christianese" to flatter God and make us appear spiritual to man. Yes, it is true – God is good all the time... But, is He good only when things are going good for me??? God is good because it is Who He is, whether our world is good or not. One of the hardest truths to swallow is the fact that prosperity and adversity come from the same Source.

To be clearer, God will sometimes break us in order to use us. A vessel broken by the hands of the Potter will often provide better service to Him because of a clearer understanding and greater reverence for the Maker. Broken or not, we must fully confess and admit to ourselves the words of the Lord Jesus: "...apart from Me you can do nothing."

4 YEARS in survival mode!

Yes, brothers! Today is December 28, 2010. It was 4 years ago in 2006 on a Thursday morning that I had my cancer-filled prostate removed and have been cancer-free since! All praise, glory and thanks go to my Lord Jesus the Christ! I'm unworthy and very grateful! Thank you, LORD!

FREE PROSTATE SCREENING, THIS SATURDAY, NOV. 6!

Hey, hey, hey! It's that time again. My fellowship, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, is having another free (F-R-E-E!!!) prostate screening, immediately following the men's breakfast/fellowship which begins at 7:30am. Come by and have some morning vittles and hear my pastor, Dr. Tony Evans, challenge the brothers from the Word and then get yourself checked - for FREE!!! No need to present your insurance card or pay a deductible! As I've said many times before: DON'T PUT IT OFF! This is too great of an opportunity to pass up! Almost 4 years ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer with no symptoms at one of these free screenings. If you read my blog, come see me and let me know you read about it here.

As soon as I'm done there, I have to rush over to Beginners Baptist Church, 3610 Hancock St. in sunny south Dallas. I've been invited to their health fair to speak out about prostate health and awareness and give my testimony. So, if you're in that area, come holler at me!

It is a privilege to be able to tell my story about how the LORD in His providence let me get diagnosed early and then to have the grace to say I "had" prostate cancer! Praise His Name!!!

Broken To Serve Twitter page deleted

You know, I'm trying to be up on all the new social communication as much as I can. however, I feel Twitter is a waste of time and I didn't have much to say on it - so I deleted it. all I need to say I can post on the blog. Don't get me wrong: Twitter is cool and has it's place on the internet super highway. It's just pointless for what I'm doing. The blog is enough. More updates to come.

KHVN interview CANCELLED, or rather postponed!

Hey, brothers! Just got a call from Tim Upshaw (Methodist Hospital Prostate Health & Screening) that our interview on KHVN has been cancelled. The reason is the host of that particular time slot (Saturday @ 5pm) will be having surgery. Not sure of his name, but you know WHO does! So, if you think of it, please pray for the brother! I will be as well. Tim alerted me that it is postponed and he is also working on getting us on another station to continue to raise awareness! Stay tuned. I will announce any up and coming interviews and health fairs right here. Peace!!!

Hear me live this weekend on KHVN!

Brothers (and sisters), if you're in the Dallas area this Saturday, tune in to KHVN 970AM (also known as HEAVEN 97). During the 5pm hour I'll be in the studio as a guest with Tim Upshaw, who is director of the Methodist Hospital Prostate Screening Program. Tim called me and said he was asked to come on the air to raise awareness for prostate health and screening and was asked to bring along with him a known survivor. He told me that I was the first person he thought of (you're too kind, Tim). Tim is the brother who calls me whenever there's a guy diagnosed with prostate cancer and is considering the robotic laparoscopic
procedure, which is what I had performed on me. So, this Saturday, September 11 @ 5pm(CST), tune in to 970am in Dallas or click> KHVN Heaven97 to hear the live stream. This is a great opportunity to get a greater message out and raise awareness for prostate cancer. If I'm able to, I will get an audio clip of the interview and post it on the blog. Peace!

One year later and new PSA result!

Hey, hey, hey!!! It's one year later and I just received my PSA result in the mail.

(drumroll)

0.019!!! Praise GOD again and again!!! Like I mentioned before, this is measured with the ultrasensitive testing that I do through Methodist Hospital in Dallas. It measures out to the thousandths rather than the normal measuring that calculates the results to the hundredths, which makes it much more accurate. The general measurment for an undetectable PSA is ≤0.05. So, with that in mind, you can get a better idea of how low my PSA is!

Again, I'm far too thankful for GOD's amazing mercy and grace to cause me to be cancer-free!!! I don't deserve it at all!!!

OCBF Family Spring Fest/Health Fair coming soon...

Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas, Texas is having another Health Fair on March 27, 2010 from 10am - 1pm in the Christian Education Building. Once again, I'll be there at a table passing out information and ready to chat. I look forward to all brothers who can make it!

One-Year Check Up Today!

I just had another post-surgery check up this morning. This is one year after my last one - which is cool because now I'm on the yearly schedule. They did something new this time. The nurse did sort of a sonogram procedure to make sure that my bladder was emptying properly. The result was good! Urine sample checked out fine. Doctor checked my lymph nodes and he said I'm good there (praise GOD!). Now it's just waiting for the PSA test result which I should get in about a week or so. Of course, the result will be posted here. Stay tuned!
